Social Groups
|
There are a wide range of social activities based at St Mary’s. We share events with our Brownie and Guide units and seize every opportunity we can to eat cake and drink tea together. Special social events crop up throughout the year, along with weekly groups like the very successful Walking Group and the Tuesday Friendship Club... St Mary’s Friendship Club The club members meet in St Mary’s Parish Hall, Newton (at the corner of Talbot Road and Cartwright Street.) The 346 bus stops right outside. The meetings are held every Tuesday from 1.30 to 3pm every week, apart from during the month of August. Everyone is welcome to come along. The Friendship club is there to provide a venue and a friendly atmosphere for the local community to meet together and make new friends, and renew old friendships as well. About 30 people come along most weeks so the chances are that you’ll know at least one person there! The Club is run by the members for the members and we plan the timetable together. We have days planned out for September and November and a Christmas Party already booked. We also go out for meals together a few times each year. Each month we aim to have one guest speaker, and some activities, as well as time to natter and laugh together. Members who would like short holidays get together and go away for the weekend. Twelve members had a lovely time in Llandudno in June. Do come along any Tuesday and join us for a cuppa and a few biscuits. Join in with the quiz or the bingo. Listen to the fascinating speaker. And there’s always time for a chat and a catch-up with old friends and new. If you’d like to know more then ring Mavis on 368 8208 or Pat on 366 5068- or just come along.
Other Groups A range of other groups use our Parish Hall for their meetings. They include a very popular and successful dance group, a playgroup, and a unit of Guides and Brownies who meet on a Tuesday night.
