Messy Church

Wow- what a fantastic afternoon, enjoyed by all. For all those that don’t know what Messy Church is, it is a 2 hour community event for children and their families. Where they participate in crafts, worship and a meal.
We held our very first Messy Church on Sunday 8 May 4-6pm in the Church hall. The theme was creation and new beginnings. There were over 30 children, plus adults that attended, where to start off, all the children made ‘take home’ bags. This was so that all their crafts the make, could be kept safe and easily carried home. Also in the bags, I enclosed a newsletter and an invitation for people to take home and pass on. Richard then welcomed everyone and I told them what the order of the event was. Then all the children were left to go and have fun and explore all the crafts on offer. It was their choice to make 1 craft, 2, 3 or all of them. The crafts that we had this week were:
After the crafts, all the children went up to church for a short period of worship and celebration. Singing ‘He’s got the whole world in His hands’, learning the creation story and being thankful for good things that have happened. Whilst this was going on, all the volunteers helped to pack away the crafts and set up the tables for the meal.
The meal was enjoyed by all. We enjoyed sandwiches, sausage rolls, crisps and cake. This gave the members of the Church, a chance to speak to, and get to know, those that don’t usually come to Church. The event ended at 6pm, with everyone leaving happy and with full bellies!!! I feel that this was a fantastic event, for the Church and the community to all join together. We have more planned, our next ones being: Sunday 10 July, 11 September and 13 November 4-6pm. All Welcome, Please come and experience for yourselves. Leanne Swift - Messy Church Co-ordinator.
